Message from the President

It is a privilege to serve as the 2005 President of the Tennessee Association of School Business Officials otherwise known  as TASBO.   Our founders, John Freeman, Bob Davis, Pat Wills and Jim McCullough, should be commended for their insight in recognizing the need for a professional organization to benefit all education school business personnel across the state.  In addition, I personally thank Ray Holt, Dick Walker, Pat Wills, Ernie Carter and Harold Waldon for allowing me the opportunity to work and grow in the field of school business over the last twenty-six years.

Since the first conference at the Holiday Inn in Columbia, Tennessee, in 1967, our organization has continued to provide its membership with the best available resources from the state department, local school systems and industry.  With over 500 members today, we are clearly one of the best school business state organizations in the country.  Over fifty vendors participate each year to inform us on the latest, innovative and cost–effective goods and services for our school systems.  Many of these same vendors go a step further and support TASBO as corporate sponsors during the conference.

As each of you know, education budgets are being cut more than ever today.  We are challenged to do more with less and less.  One of the major responsibilities of your elected Board is to provide you with an annual program of professional staff development offering the latest information, skills, motivation, products and services to aid you in successfully managing school business operations.  Every conference is organized with this goal.  Conference 2005, like past conference programs, will challenge us to Reach for the Stars as we manage local school finances for the state’s most valuable assets and shining stars, The Students of Tennessee.

2004 – 2005 Officers and Directors

The 2005 Officers and Board of Directors are listed below.  Feel free to contact any of us for information or suggestions for the organization.  Although it is an honor to be elected to serve on the Board, it requires a personal and professional commitment to actively participate and attend all quarterly meetings, as well as devoting long hours during the conference.  We encourage any member interested in serving on the board to contact us.

38th Annual Conference and Exhibits – Chattanooga a Real Success!

We appreciate the responses on your evaluation forms from the last conference.  This information was carefully analyzed to set the stage for the next conference.  I am glad to report the 38th Annual Conference and Exhibits in Chattanooga was a real success!  Congratulations to Past-President Christie Jordan for a job well done.  It is hoped that each of you came away with a huge bounty of information and ideas for “Navigating Change" in your operations.  The Pre-Conference Workshop presented by Southern Educational Services was informative and received high marks from the attendees.  Special thanks go out to our state department personnel and local school business officials for their participation as presenters. We salute David Huss and his staff for their monumental support!   Of course, we would be remiss if we did not express gratitude to our many generous vendors for their exhibits and sponsorships.  The great door prizes always add fun and excitement.  Finally, the Tennessee Aquarium could not have been a better place to drop anchor for a little R & R and great food after days of grueling information overload.  Be sure to visit the website, www.tasbo.net, under News, for photos of the Conference Highlights.  Newsletters, present and future, will be archived on the site.

Thanks to Our 2004 Exhibitors and Sponsors

Without the generous financial support of our corporate sponsors and exhibitors, conference costs would make it impossible for many of us to attend each year.  Exhibitors and Sponsorships at the last conference reached an all time high thanks to the superb efforts of Maryanne Durski, Director and Exhibitor Coordinator and Chris Henson, last year's Past-President.  It is critical to let the exhibitors and sponsors know how much their support is appreciated in keeping member registration and conference fees low.  Their financial support provides for a major portion of the conference and evening expenditures.  We must continue to build on this tremendous base.  If you know other companies that would like to be an exhibitor or corporate sponsor at the upcoming conference, contact Maryanne Durski or Colette Arnold for exhibits, Christie Jordan for sponsorships or simply refer them to our website.  Again, we want to sincerely thank the corporate sponsors below for making the Chattanooga Conference a financial success!
